Professional Memberships & Qualifications:
I love the work I do, and it’s a privilege to walk alongside each client on their journey of healing and self-expression.
Art therapy is a gentle, creative form of psychotherapy that uses art-making as a way to explore feelings, reduce stress, and support emotional healing. You do not need to be artistic. The focus is on expression, not creating a perfect picture.
For Children
Children naturally communicate through play, colour, and imagination. Art therapy gives them a safe, playful space to express feelings they may not yet have words for. Through drawing, painting, building, or storytelling, children can explore worries, build confidence, and develop healthier ways of coping. The creative process helps them feel in control, understood, and supported.
For Adults
Art offers a way to express emotions that can be difficult to talk about directly. By working with images, colour, and symbolism, adults can access deeper feelings, gain insight, and gently process experiences such as anxiety, trauma, grief, or low self-esteem. Art therapy can help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and open up new perspectives.
Why It’s Such a Good Choice for Therapy
• It allows you to communicate in more than words
• It can feel safer and less overwhelming than talking alone
• Creativity helps calm the body and mind
• It supports emotional regulation and self-awareness
• It can uncover insights that are hard to reach through conversation
• It’s suitable for all ages and all abilities
Art therapy brings together creativity, empathy, and psychological understanding. Whether through paint, clay, stories, or simple marks on paper, the process offers a gentle, effective path toward healing and self-discovery.

At The Healing Room, I offer creative, talking and play-based therapy for both adults and children.

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creative expression such as drawing, painting, collage, or clay to explore feelings, reduce stress, and support emotional well-being. You don’t need any artistic skills, you don't need to be "good" at art and you do not even need to like art; the process and expression matter more than the finished artwork.
Not at all. Art therapy is about expression, not artistic ability. Many clients actually come with no art experience. The materials simply help you explore thoughts and emotions in a gentle, non-verbal way.
Sessions usually begin with a brief conversation about how you’re feeling, followed by time to explore different art materials. After creating, we may discuss what came up for you or what the image represents only as much as you feel comfortable sharing. Each session is tailored to your needs. Some clients prefer sessions where no art is created and we have a typical talking therapy session instead, these sessions are person centered and about you.
Yes. My studio is located in my home, where no one else lives, meaning sessions are entirely private and confidential. You’ll be welcomed into a quiet, peaceful environment dedicated solely to therapy and creative work.
The room is a calm, light-filled space overlooking open fields and trees. It’s designed to feel soothing, safe, and grounding, with a wide range of art materials available. Many clients say the natural surroundings help them settle and feel at ease.
It’s very normal to feel unsure at first. You’re welcome to move at your own pace, there is no pressure to talk or create anything specific. The studio is a gentle, non-judgmental environment where you can simply experiment and be yourself.
Sessions typically last 50–60 minutes. Some people come weekly, others fortnightly. We can discuss what suits your schedule and emotional needs.
It can be a combination of both, depending on what feels right for you. Some clients prefer to talk while they create, others focus quietly, and some alternate. There is no “right way” to do art therapy.
A wide selection such as paints, pencils, pastels, clay, collage materials, clay, chalks, oil pastels, and mixed-media tools. You’re welcome to explore whatever feels comfortable or intriguing.
Art therapy can support people of all ages. I currently work with all ages from age 5+ and sessions are adapted to suit developmental and emotional needs.
Art therapy gives children freedom to express themselves in a natural, intuitive way—often long before they have the words to describe what they’re feeling. Creating art activates multiple pathways in the brain, including sensory, emotional, and motor areas, which helps children process experiences that talking alone may not reach.
The creative process can also lower stress, improve emotional regulation, build confidence, and support healthy development. Many children find it easier to communicate through images, colour, and play rather than conversation, which makes art therapy a gentle and effective approach for children of all ages and abilities.
Art therapy can support a very wide range of emotional, behavioural, and psychological challenges. Because it engages parts of the brain that verbal therapy doesn’t always access, it can help people process complex feelings and experiences in a safe, non-verbal way.
Some of the difficulties art therapy can support include, but are not limited to:
Anxiety, worry, and stress
Low mood, depression, and emotional overwhelm
Trauma, PTSD, and early life experiences that are hard to put into words
Bereavement, grief, and loss
Family changes such as separation or divorce
Low confidence or self-esteem
Anger, frustration, and emotional regulation difficulties
Sensory processing differences
Neurodiversity (including autism and ADHD)
Social difficulties or peer challenges
School stress or academic pressure
Behavioural challenges and big feelings in younger children
Because art taps into deeper neural pathways, it allows thoughts and feelings to surface in symbolic, gentle, and indirect ways—helping people make sense of their inner world without having to explain everything verbally. This makes art therapy a powerful support for both children and adults, including those who find talking difficult, overwhelming, or simply not their preferred way of communicating.
